COPE and Climbing Level 1:
Pre-requisites: Climb on Safely, Registered BSA and current YPT.
This is an introduction course to assisting COPE and Climbing events. Comfort at height and good physical condition are preferred but not necessary. We will cover BSA Standards, basic rope work, knots and safety procedures. After completion you will be able to assist in running COPE or Climbing program as staff.
Age requirements: Youth 16 + and Adult leaders over the age of 18 may take Level 1 Tower. Age determines certification level.
Registration Fee: The program fee for both courses is $60.00 and includes Friday Cracker Barrel, Saturday breakfast / lunch / dinner and Sunday breakfast/lunch + instruction materials and staff t-shirt.
Housing: Cabins are included in the registration fee. If you would prefer to tent camp, let us know in advance and we can reduce your registration fee by $10.00.

This is an intense 3 day program; classes will start promptly at 6:30 PM on Friday, and run until early afternoon on Sunday. Check-in will be at the Camp Durant Admin Building. Participants are encouraged to stay at Camp. Cabins have been reserved and are included in your registration fee. Please notify Kevin Blackwood in advance, of any dietary restrictions or health issues.
All training will take place at Camp Durant on the COPE Course/Climbing tower.
Certification is valid for 12 months, expiring in December of that year.
COPE and Climbing Level 2: (Fall Course Only)
Prerequisites: Current BSA registration, Climb on Safely and YPT card (these courses are available online at www.scouting.org) All training is site specific only (good for Occoneechee Council)
Cope and Climbing Level 1 facilitator/instructor training within the past 12 months and proof of participation as staff at an event within a year of your original certification. Must have Red Cross First Aid (prefer Wilderness First Aid). Registered BSA adults 21+ in good physical shape and not afraid of heights will be accepted. These two courses are the equivalent to National Camp School Training, condensed to two weekend sessions and two additional 1 day event qualification sessions. Certification is for 3 years. Class size is limited to (16) participants.
